ljwritesI've gone and renamed the journal, something I was thinking about for a while. I was originally gunning for lj-lee, but names with the lj- prefix are evidently reserved in the LJ system. This name was available through a deletion and purge, though, with a helpful link to rename my own journal. I'm not sure who the old ljlee was but I'm not them, I just hope the old one wasn't a serial killer or anything.
Since I've decided to take the plunge I've had occasion to think about pen names. One thing's for sure, I'm not using my real name, at least not in the English market. It's pretty hard for English users to pronounce and I don't want to be stuck in an "ethnic" market, especially given the very ethnic subject matter of the story. Which will hopefully have some cross-appeal with the genre market, otherwise I'm screwed.
I didn't want to take a Western name either though, for the simple reason that I've never had one and it doesn't feel like me. Using part of my initials is a middle ground, and a camouflage for my gender. That's actually rather appropriate, since my real name is gender-neutral in even its native language. In fact it's usually considered a male name. Going by initials hides my race, too, since the anglicized version of my surname could as well be a white name as a Korean or Chinese one.
Don't get me wrong, I love being a woman and being Korean, I just don't love being a stereotype. I'll take whatever help I can get to climb out of pigeonholes, even something so small as a name.
After some thought I've decided to keep the handle on fanfiction.net, and will keep posting and reviewing fanfic under the same name as before Only my LJ and DW journals are affected, since they now have a focus beyond fandom stuff. Feel free to direct all inquiries and comments to Luna, LJ, "hey you," or any other name you can think of.
