I actually looked it up and oxytocin, which stimulates lactation and makes closer bonds between parent and child, may also help people sleep better and with fewer nightmares. I did notice I often conked out with the kiddo whether I intended to or not, and while general tiredness must contribute to it the breastfeeding definitely could be a factor, too.

Yesterday I also had a conversation with a friend who is taking a class on nutrition and anthropology. (He's also a poly trans guy, btw!) He's very positive about my breastfeeding the baby at 17 months. It's a big boost for the baby's immune system, and they lose interest naturally around 2 or 3 when they no longer need it. Mostly I love cuddling with him and it's an easy way to put him out at night. XD
