Yeah, I never buy the whole, "It was from the SIXTIES!" thing when it comes to rape in books. Spider Robinson was writing sci-fi stories where rape was a serious awful thing back in '73, only five years after Pern, and I doubt there was some massive revolution about it in that length of time. (Plus McCaffrey just has some CREEPY ideas about rape and orientation.)
