Here's a brief background on what got overlithe (and me, and others) so riled about Korra. Season 1 of the show was about a revolutionary movement that purported to fight for the rights of the mundanes (non-benders) whom the movement's leader said were oppressed by the magicals (benders). This movement took over the city the show is set in, and started forcibly removing benders' powers to turn them into mundanes. Then it was discovered that the revolution's leader had been lying about himself and was actually a bender masquerading as a non-bender. When the heroine literally unmasked him, the movement disintegrated due to his followers' abandoning him in disgust.
As for the alleged oppression, which included unprosecuted murders of non-benders by benders, the issue was totally ignored and the implication was that it was all made up along with the leader's backstory. Which actually makes no sense because at least one character lost his wife to a bender--was that a fabrication, too? A misunderstanding? The story never says. Instead the whole season was about benders angsting about possibly losing their special powers, angsting about having lost their special powers, and angsting while fighting not to lose their special powers.
Yeah, it was pretty bad. There's a reason overlithe summarized it as being the "lying bitches who lie about rape" story. I get angry all over just writing about it. Seasons 3 and 4 are supposed to be pretty good, but after the Season 1 fiasco I just can't drag myself back to the show.
That's one thing I like about Infinity Smashed, that life goes on after the supernatural has entered the characters' lives. People still change, grow, move on. It's about people growing up in response to what they've learned from the supernatural, not about using the supernatural to avoid growing up.
