Rogan of lb_lee asked:
How did you meet your hubs?
By being a geek on the internet 😂 No seriously, I met Mark through tabletop roleplaying. We were friends for years online, both of us blogging about roleplaying, playing roleplaying games and boardgames together, and chatting a lot on MSN Messenger (yes, it existed back then).
Mark developed a crush on me at some point, despite not even having seen me other than a not-so-high-quality photograph shared online at one point. I guess I should have gotten the message when he said I looked pretty in a photo where I wasn't in very good focus and wasn't dressed up in any way! But yeah, he occasionally dropped hints about his feelings and I was starting to get my suspicions.
He left no room for doubt when he sent me a message confessing his feelings--our memories differ as to how, I remember it as a private comment on my blog while he says it was an e-mail--and I was unsure how to respond. I hadn't considered dating any of the roleplaying geeks in my circle, since for one thing most were younger than I was. Mark was one of the older ones at twenty-six and I was twenty-nine at the time, which is considered a significant age gap in Korea when the woman is older.
Within months of that I graduated from law school, took the bar exam, and came home to Korea where I had a job lined up. (Did I mention we were on opposite sides of the Pacific Ocean this whole time?) We met up and I could tell his feelings for me were very much present, but I was hesitant to reciprocate. To my alarm I found my own feelings begin to grow, too, because now that I met him in person I found him so attractive. What can I say, I'm a sucker for short, stocky guys with cute faces. On one of our next meetings I confessed to him and kissed him. I figured, if this wasn't going to last I'd enjoy it while it did.
Well it turned out to last longer than I thought! Last year was the tenth since we started dating, we've been married for six of those years, and we have a child together. Idk if this is happily ever after, but we're living happily and so far it's soooo good ❤️
(I mean there's a reason I love the friends to lovers trope so much and bristle at the suggestion that friends can't be lovers--though I also bristle at the suggestion that a man and woman can't be platonic friends. And yes, in this house we ship Finnrey lol.)
