I can say for certain that I am hugely indebted to Jewish thinking about the relationship between culture and religion in processing my own experiences, and if I were to take a guess I would say the recent greater visibility of cultural Christianity draws inspiration from that, too. It wasn't until I had Jewish friends and learned a little about Judaism that I became aware that religion, culture, and faith did not necessarily have to go together, and that gave me a framework to reconcile my lack of faith with my cultural influences.
