I think that has a lot to do with it. Family dynamics are complex at the best of times, and narcissist parents like we had don't tend to leave room for their children's boundaries and selfhood. It's a good argument for young adults to leave their parents and develop on their own, though economic reasons often make it difficult and no one should have had to go through what you did to achieve independence.
