I should say, B5 can be hard work. Its first season is incredibly uneven as it scrambles to establish itself, set up arcs and escape the shadow of Star Trek, within the bounds of 1990s network TV. The pilot movie is unspeakably bad, and I recommend skipping it. Even at its height, there's the kind of dialogue that looks good on paper and sounds slightly ridiculous when spoken, some terrible guest stars, and the final resolution of the arc is rushed because the series was cancelled, then got a last-minute reprieve, leaving them with half a season of thumb-twiddling.

Also, the exec producer/head writer is insuffrable.

On the other hand, we wouldn't have shows like BSG without it, and the ideas and stories, the sacrifices made by the characters and the general scale of it are amazing. Even when it's blatantly Tolkien In Space, it's Tolkien In Space done really well.
